Nina Arianda (Midnight in Paris, Tower Heist) is set to play Janis Joplin in a forthcoming biopic about the singer’s life. A Tony winner for Venus in Fur, Arianda is tasked with bringing 21 of Joplin’s most iconic tracks to life.

“I've never in my life seen an actress walk on a stage and convey the duality of vulnerability with overheated sexuality, which is what Janis was all about,” producer Peter Newman told Deadline.

The film will be directed by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene). There is no word yet on an official release date.
