Great news Metallica fans: the metal legends will be stepping into the studio soon to begin work on a new album. As revealed by drummer Lars Ulrich, the band plans to begin work after they’re done filming their 3D movie and performing at August’s Outside Lands concert.

Currently the band is without a label, but certainly unperturbed with the idea of going it alone. “It is what it is,” says frontman James Hetfield. “And when it becomes time for us to either renegotiate or shop around or do things ourselves or something like that, we don’t know. There’s nothing but options, which is great.”

Catch Metallica at the Outside Lands Festival, August 10-12. They’ll be filming their 3D concert August 24 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
