Watch Neil Young Perform New Song “Twisted Road”

Aug 8, 2012 at 9:50 AM | Music News | By Rock Square

Neil Young’s current tour with Crazy Horse kicked off a few days ago in Albuquerque, and the legendary road warriors used the occasion to bless fans with a spate of brand new tunes, one of which, the nostalgic “Twisted Road”, is gaining a fair amount of internet traction.

And say what you will about the mess of uncivil behavior that is YouTube, but it’s thanks to that video monolith that a lovely live rendition of “Twisted Road” has now been made public.

Shot by a fan at Crazy Horse’s Red Rocks Amphitheater show on August 6, the video features Young on stage sans his bandmates, the crowd cheering “Twisted Road”’s sentimental ode to rock music of yesteryear.

Reminiscent of Young’s seminal heartbreaker Heart of Gold, “Twisted Road” is an acoustic paean to Young’s contemporaries, and the lyrics are rife with references to bygone tunes and departed artists.

One verse features a nod to Bob Dylan:

“First time I heard ‘Like a Rolling Stone’

I felt that magic and took it home

I gave it a twist and made it mine

But nothing was as good as the very first time”

While Young later calls out the Grateful Dead and drops allusions to past rock hits:

“Walking with the devil on a twisted road

Listened to the Dead on the radio

That old time music used to soothe my soul

If I get back home I’ll let the good times roll”

Young and Crazy Horse will be touring North America through November, by which time “Twisted Road” will likely be a polished gem.
