Capitol Records Goes All Out For The Beach Boys’ 50th Anniversary

Aug 10, 2012 at 2:12 PM | Music News | By Rock Square

Capitol Records has just announced plans to mark The Beach Boys’ 50th anniversary with two career-spanning compilations and twelve remastered reissues of classic Beach Boys albums.

While the world certainly doesn’t lack for greatest hits collections by The Beach Boys, Capitol’s additions to the fray promise to be definitive slabs. The Beach Boys’ Greatest Hits is set to feature twenty of the band’s best-known songs, while 50 Big Ones: Greatest Hits, a special two-disc collection, expands the view to include pretty much every Beach Boys song a new fan might need to know.

In addition to the two compilations, Capitol will be releasing a dozen remastered studio albums, including Smiley Smile, Surfin’ U.S.A., Pet Sounds and Surfs Up!, to name a few.

Capitol’s announcement was a much-needed bright spot in Beach Boys news this week, as reports surfaced this morning that Surf: The Musical, a Las Vegas production set to the music of The Beach Boys, is closing after only six weeks of disappointing ticket sales.

The complete line-up of planned reissues is as follows:

50th Anniversary Greatest Hits

Greatest Hits: 50 Big Ones

Surfin' U.S.A.

Surfer Girl

Little Deuce Coupe

Shut Down, Volume 2

All Summer Long

The Beach Boys Today!

Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!)

Beach Boys Party!

Pet Sounds

Smiley Smile

Sunflower

Surf's Up
