The Cult, who spent most of the summer touring the world in support of their ninth studio album, Choice of Weapon, will soon be releasing a collection of demos under the title Weapon of Choice.

Billed as a “prequel” to Choice of Weapon, which came out on May 22, Weapon of Choice will offer a glimpse at The Cult’s writing and recording process.

"These songs were turned over and over, forged in long rehearsals and writing sessions, and emanated from challenges both personal and professional,” said Cult leader Ian Astbury.

"We put our guts into this,” Astbury explained. “[Producer Chris] Goss was able to create an environment where the songs were born through playing and turning over lyrics, through hard work and intense sessions. These songs have an integrity and rawness of their own. In many ways it's a different album to the one we released and reveals the foundations of Choice of Weapon. We were able to close the doors and begin to explore spaces we had not been in for a while.”

The album will be available exclusively on iTunes for only two months beginning on October 16, 2012. Until then, Cult fans can head over to TheCult.us for a free download of album track “Twisted and Bleeding”.
