Watch Steve Vai and 2Cellos Cover “Highway to Hell”
The unlikely success story of Croation-Slovenian duo 2Cellos continues apace with the build-up to its 2013 sophomore effort, In2ition, which features the classically trained cello duo tackling famous songs by AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, Coldplay, Elton John and The Police, among many others.
Lead single “Highway to Hell” features a guest spot from one of our favorites, Steve Vai and was released in music video form yesterday. If you ever doubted the rock ‘n’ roll potential of cellos or the peerless skills of Steve Vai, this is a must-see clip.
The video finds the cello shredders crashing Vai’s appearance at Guitar Center, where the duo kicks into its energetic take on AC/DC’s classic, stealing Vai’s fans in the process. An annoyed Vai eventually takes up the challenge and enters the riff-heavy fray with his own virtuosic licks, at which point Guitar Center becomes something more akin to a nightclub.
2Cellos will be touring the world come November, while Steve Vai is currently trekking across Europe in support of this year’s The Story of Light.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Vai at the tail end of the guitar legend’s recent U.S. tour, and the conversation that ensued was an illuminating thing indeed. We posted the fascinating interview yesterday, and you know what we’re going to say: you should read it!
