Next Friday, Dave Grohl’s heavily hyped music doc Sound City will be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. As we reported last week, Grohl is going so far as to haul his very own supergroup, the Sound City Players, out to Utah to play the post-premiere party.

Yesterday, Grohl revealed his Sound City Players line-up, and it is one strange and beautiful Frankenstein’s monster of a band.

Joining Grohl in Park City next week will be Stevie Nicks; John Fogerty; Foo Fighters bandmates Chris Shiflett, Taylor Hawkins and Nate Mendel; ex-Nirvana comrades Pat Smear and Kris Novoselic; Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine; Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen; Rick Springfield; Slipknot’s Corey Taylor; Lee Ving of Fear; Jessy Greene; Chris Goss and Rami Jaffee.

Yes, you read that right: Stevie Nicks and Rick Springfield are in a band together. This oughta be good.

As of now, the Sound City Players are a one-night-only thing, but if Grohl has his way, similar star-packed combinations will accompany the film on its voyage around the country.

“After each premiere we could have a show with musicians,” Grohl explained. “They’d not only play music from the film, but from their catalogs as well. We could do it in a Hammerstein or Roseland and pack the bill with the coolest bands in the world . . . We aren’t far away from this. Pretty soon, everyone will hear what our big plan is. We’ve been planning it for a long f*****g time.”

Sound City premieres at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday, January 18. The film’s soundtrack will be released on March 12.
