AC/DC Bassist Cliff Williams Says Angus Young is Working on New Material

Mar 22, 2013 at 11:27 AM | Music News | By Rock Square

AC/DC has been taking it easy since wrapping up their epic Black Ice World Tour in 2010. Although the band has yet to firm up any recording plans, bassist Cliff Williams recently revealed that guitarists Angus and Malcom Young have been writing new material for the Australian rock legends.

“[There is] nothing in the works right now [as far as recording],” Williams explained. “We’re still getting over the last tour, so we’re just hanging out and doing stuff. [Malcom and Angus] are writing material and when they’ve got some stuff together, they’ll give us a holler.”

According to Williams, AC/DC’s writing and recording process is a long one, and apparently most of the initial work falls to the Young brothers.

“[Angus and Malcolm] get a bunch of ideas together,” Williams said. “Some are more together than others. And then we’ll all hit the studio or a little rehearsal room and we’ll kick it around with a producer. And then we get in a studio and record, and that’s kind of how it runs. The guys [Malcom and Angus], I’m sure, are putting their time in, but they’re not ready for [the rest of the band to get involved] yet.”

It’s been nearly five years since AC/DC released Black Ice, its fifteenth studio album. Two years ago, the band mollified fans with a concert film, Live at River Plate, but it’s been pretty quiet in AC/DC-land since then. 2013 marks the band’s 40th Anniversary, however, so something tells us we’ll be hearing more from them before year’s end.
