Ray Manzarek’s Final Recordings Released
The final recordings by Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, who passed away last month at the age of 74, were released yesterday. The album, Twisted Tales, is a collaboration between Manzarek and renowned slide guitarist Roy Rogers. It was completed shortly before Manzarek’s death.
“In our last meeting together before his passing, Ray and I were both very excited about the upcoming release of Twisted Tales,” Rogers said in a press release. “We signed off on the artwork and agreed that it should be released sooner than later. So, honoring that decision, I have proceeded with the release. We both were proud of this recording and hope that people enjoy it. This recording is dedicated to Ray’s memory.”
Manzarek and Rogers first collaborated on 2008’s Ballads Before the Rain, but it was 2011’s Translucent Blues that proved to be their breakout recording, reaching #1 on the Americana Roots chart and #6 on Billboard’s Blues Chart.
On May 21, one day after Manzarek passed away, Rogers posted the following statement on the band’s official website: “Ray Manzarek was a great friend and collaborator. He was one of the true rock icons that had heart, intellect and talent. It was wonderful to make music with him these past 7 years….and I shall miss him.”
There is currently a full-length documentary in the works about the pair’s collaborative relationship.Doors fan? Check out what we've got for you in the Marketplace here.
