Motley Crue Set Date for Retirement Announcement?

Jan 10, 2014 at 10:20 AM | Music News | By Rock Square

Motley Crue appear to be preparing to officially announce their retirement. On Thursday night, the band sent out a “save the date” notice to press outlets. The date in question: January 28, 2014. The event: yet to be revealed, although the notice came in the form of an image of a gravestone decorated by the words “Motley Crue: All Bad Things Must Come to an End.” So we (and everyone else on the internet) are pretty sure January 28 will find the revered glam metal quartet announcing their final tour.

This news shouldn’t come as a surprise to classic rock fans who had their ear to the ground or their eyes on Rock Square’s Motley Crue coverage in the last six months.

"I think we'll start the [farewell] tour around May--I'm just kind of guessing on that, but in the spring of '14--and we'll do one more time around the world and kinda call it quits,” frontman Vince Neil explained in the summer of 2013. “It's just that time. We're going out on top. We don't want to be some band that people are like, 'Oh, they're playing a club now,' that kind of band. We still sell out arenas, have stadium stuff and things like that, so let's go out when it's a big deal."

Bassist Nikki Sixx had similar thoughts about Crue’s eventual end:

“We are huge rock fans, and there are bands out there that we just are like, ‘Aww, dude, why didn’t [they] pack it in before it turned into that?’ You know? And I know I’m not alone on this--a lot of my friends, we sit around and talk about this band and that band and what that album meant to us, and it always boils down to the last few years. And we want the last few years to be on top, and we want to go out gracefully and with a bang.”

Guess we’ll find out for sure on January 28, but it’s looking like you all better clear your calendars for a going away party.
